The great Jimmy Castor has passed on.
Jimmy is known as a singer/saxaphonist and energetic bandleader of his
70s funk group, the Jimmy Castor Bunch.
He also provided pivotal inspiration in hip hop music,
which sampled his funky crossover songs.
His first album dropped in the golden year of funk, 1972, and “Troglodyte (Cave Man)”
became an anthem of the dancefloor, among many more to come over the band’s career.
“It’s Just Begun” is sampled “by everyone in hip hop” as Jimmy put it.
Most recently Jimmy was sampled by Kanye West on the artists debut album.

Tribute to one and only Mark Adams /SLAVE/ part 2

Me and my friend Maria Granditsky made this great tribute to one of the best bass players in funk music Mr. Mark Adams...
What you`re about to witness is her interview with mr. Adams. My part was adding music, so we all can listen to the genious that he was.
Here is a preface written by Maria..

Here's a brief background on the interview you are about to hear with Slave bassist extraordinaire Mark L. Adams. This cassette tape has been stashed away in my archives since 1990. At the time of the interview I had just started out writing for a fanzine here in my native Stockholm, Sweden, as well as hosting my own Funk Radio Show on community radio, which I had began in the mid 80's.
I discovered that by calling the phone numbers listed on albums and singles, I could sometimes reach artists directly and interview them. So when Slave issued an album on the independent label Ichiban in 1990, I jumped at the opportunity and to my excitement it was original member Mark L. Adams who was the spokesperson for the group.

As you'll hear, I was not a professional interviewer and it was never intended to be broadcast or shared with the public. The tape was purely the basis for an article about Slave I was going to write, as a long time fan of the group.
But when Mark L. Adams passed away recently and there seems to be few, if any, interviews with him, I decided to let my good friend Funkadelian help me compile my cassette into a two part special, with many of mine and his favorite Slave songs as well.
I hope you enjoy this tribute to Mark L. Adams: one of the world's greatest bass players.
